Goldwin Smith Hall

Goldwin Smith Hall, left, is where we meet every Sunday afternoon. Everyone in the Cornell community and beyond is welcome. In these general meetings, we discuss the agenda for the coming print issue, plan events, discuss politics, and hang out. The meetings start at 3 pm in room 181, and we go out to the Quad to play some soccer or Frisbee afterwards. So join us on the weekend and have some fun.

Don't forget!
Just a reminder that you can sign up for our mailing list on the left panel. It won't clutter your mailbox, but we can update you on upcoming events and activities, and let you learn more about us.

Upcoming Events - October
12/2 - In the election held before Thanksgiving break, Tsee Yuan Lee (tyl2) was elected President for next semester. Jamison Moore (jwm33) was voted V.P., anc Scott Beemer (slb36) will continue to serve as Editor-In-Chief. Stacy Pace and Aliza Wasserman had previously been appointed content and copy editors, respectively. We thank the officers this semester for getting us to a great start. Don't forget the article deadline is fast approaching.

11/3 - We'll get the latest election issue on Monday. Help out! Email Alex or Tsee for copies. Thanks!

10/27 - The SAFC ignores our protestation of discrimination by using the same reasoning as in the original allocation to reject our appeal. Tell them you want a sane voice on campus! We will fight for our rights and appeal to the Student Assembly.

10/5 - The Student Assembly Finance Commission (SAFC) gives Turn Left the shaft! Some other paper, which we'll not name, as well as a few other publications received full funding. For Turn Left, we got 37% of what we asked for, with convoluted reasons such as:

  • [We didn't give you enough last year, so] you didn't publish often enough, so we'll give just a little more than last year;
  • Get advertising and cut the number of copies per issue [they didn't ask the other papers to do either]; and
  • You weren't detailed enough in how you plan to publish so many issues [we gave them eight publishing dates and they lied to the SA Appropriations Committee, saying we didn't].

Ideas!
Come on, we know you've got great ideas. Let us know how to publicize more effectively or reach a wider audience. Tell us of events you know of where people may be interested in joining our group. Maybe it's some forum or other event your group is holding. We'd like to help, physically or financially! We'll co-sponsor any event that shares our ideas for a friendlier campus.

We Need Peoplepower!
You'd be amazed at how many (or few) people are needed to produce a great issue, or have a fun party. Join us and discover what's been missing in your life.
